Make Your Own Homemade Playdough

Hi everyone! Today I will be showing you how to make your own homemade playdough. And I will be sharing with you some of the benefits playdough has on children. Hint There’s loads!!

Recipe For Making Playdough

Here it goes. All you need are these 6 ingredients, most of us have these in the kitchen already so we don’t need to go out and specially buy these ingredients.

  • 2 cups of all purpose flour or plain flour
  • 3/4- cup of salt
  • 2 tablespoons – cream of tartar
  • Food colouring
  • 2 cups – warm water
  • 2 tablespoons – vegetable oil

That’s all you need! Now let’s get making!

Method for making your own homemade playdough

This is the easy part. You just get a mixing bowl, put all the dry ingredients in it and then add the oil. Then you add the water, I would add a cup first then add half a cup gradually just so your dough doesn’t get too wet. Then what I would do is split the play dough into 4 different pieces and mix the different food colouring in each to make four different colours. Or if there’s a few of you, then you can make four different playdoughs and then add the food colouring so it would be a bigger play dough.

That’s it. Your play dough is made.

Now have fun and start play dough-ing 😉

The Benefits of playdough

There are so many different benefits of play dough. First of all it encourages role-playing and pretend play which is important in a child’s development. Playdough increases the language skills and social skills because kids will usually discuss or talk about what they are making. Children also use their imagination and creativity skills. Playdough tends to be a calming activity as well. You will find that, kids will just concentrate in their play and focus on what they are doing. On average, a child will spend 45+ minutes on this activity, without getting distracted! Playdough also helps with children’s fine motor skills. Children also show curiosity in their play and are also curiosity what others do with it.

This activity is also a good bonding moment for you and your children as you can play together without anyone getting bored or distracted 🙂

There are loads more benefits to play dough.

Add some toys and play dough cutters to enhance their play and help them to gain more skills through this simple activity!

Making your own playdough is a great idea. I love that you know what the ingredients are and if you prefer everything organic can use organic ingredients and natural colorings.

Far too many things now have preservatives and chemicals that are harmful.

Enjoyed the post, thank you. I will be having a go at this myself.
